2026 Nominations and Elections
The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame (CHRHF) invites the public to participate in the nomination of people and horses who have made a significant contribution to Canadian Standardbred or Thoroughbred horse racing, for induction to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, as part of the CHRHF Class of 2026.
Nominations are being sought in the following categories:
PERSON: Trainers, Drivers, Jockeys.
BUILDERS: Includes, but not limited to Breeders, Owners, Officials, and others.
COMMUNICATORS: Includes, but not limited to Writers, Broadcasters, Photographers, Announcers, Bloggers.
VETERAN PERSON: Trainers, Drivers, Jockeys whose careers have been concluded for 20 years, but less than 50 years.
MALE HORSE: Colts, geldings or stallions whose significant contribution to Canadian racing as racehorses and/or as sires has occurred in the past 20 years.
FEMALE HORSE: Fillies and mares whose contribution to Canadian racing as racehorses and/or broodmares occurred in the past 20 years.
VETERAN HORSE: Horses whose careers have been concluded for 20 years, but less than 50 years.
LEGEND: Horses or people whose careers have been concluded for 50 years or more including Canadians who have excelled at home or on the international stage or those from elsewhere who have had a significant impact on Canadian racing. Individuals who would be considered unsung heroes or trailblazers within the sport are also eligible for this category. All nominations for all categories EXCEPT Legends, received before the nomination deadline of February 20, 2026, at 5:00 pm EST, that meet the eligibility criteria, will be considered by the Nomination Committee of the appropriate breed.
All nominations for the Legend Category, received before the nomination deadline of Monday, March 9 at 5:00 pm EST, that meet the eligibility criteria, will be considered by the Legend Committee of the appropriate breed. To create the ballot of finalists that will be forwarded to the Election Committee, each breed’s Nominating Committee will vote on the categories to be recognized before determining the nominees in each of the selected categories. The Election Committee for each breed will vote by secret ballot to determine the Inductees to be recognized as the Class of 2026.
NOTE: It was previously agreed for 2025 and 2026, six categories will be selected for each breed, to help offset the reduced number on inductees elected during 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, for the purposes of 2025 and 2026, should it be determined by the Nomination Committee to select five categories for either breed, plus Legends, the Committee will identify one category to double up, inducting two candidates, so that a total of six inductees per breed, plus 1 Legend for each breed is achieved
Nominations submitted from 2023 through 2025 need not be re-submitted unless there are relevant biographical updates/changes available for consideration by the Nomination Committee.

The categories selected to be recognized for each breed in 2026, along with the finalists in each category will be announced March 24, 2026.
The CHRHF Class of 2026 consisting of six Standardbred and six Thoroughbred Inductees plus one Legend Inductee for each breed, will be announced April 8, 2026.
