2025 Standardbred Male Horse
Muscle Mass established himself as a premier trotting stallion, consistently producing top-tier performers throughout North America and Europe, siring horses with earnings of more than $84 million.
Muscle Mass hails from one of harness racing’s most prolific families – a Muscles Yankee son of Graceful Touch, 2, 1:56.1 ($161,983), a brilliant stakes winning two-year-old herself. Bred by Perretti Farms of Cream Ridge, New Jersey, he was purchased at the 2006 Harrisburg Yearling Sale for $100,000 as a yearling by Barry Guariglia and Wayne Jacobs of Lebanon, NJ.
He retired to stud duty as the fastest two-year-old son of the formidable sire, Muscles Yankee, having established his world-record mark of 1:53.4 in only his second career start, a stakes event at the one-mile track in Springfield, Illinois. Trained by Erv Miller, his undefeated two-year-old season included 7 wins and $196,750 in earnings. He scored back-to-back wins at Lexington’s Red Mile and a 10-length, track and stakes record in the American-National at Balmoral Park.
Despite an abbreviated racing career following an injury early in 2008 during his three- year-old campaign, Muscle Mass has been a leading influence in the trotting world, producing 925 starters with average earnings of more than $96,000, and passing on his exceptional speed, conformation, and temperament to his offspring.
He established himself as a leading trotting sire in Ontario and was the leading first crop sire of Ontario Sire Stakes winners in 2012. He followed that up with spectacular years in 2013 and 2014 as the leading Ontario sire of two-year-old trotters in overall earnings. He was also the overall leading trotting sire in 2014.
He spent two breeding seasons at Blue Chip Farms in Wallkill, New York with his first New York-eligible crop hitting the track in 2017, dominating the New York Sires Stakes Program. The Muscle Mass two-year-olds out-earned their nearest competitor (Chapter Seven) by over $650,000 – led by Matron and Goldsmith Maid elimination and final winner, Plunge Blue Chip, and Kindergarten Classic Final winner, Tito.
Now standing at Tara Hills Stud in Port Perry, Ontario, his roster of champion offspring includes millionaires Six Pack, Plunge Blue Chip, and two-time O’Brien Award winner, Adare Castle. Muscle Mass also sired numerous Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Champions including Riveting Rosie, Muscle Matters, Motown Muscle, Muscle Baby Doll and On A Sunny Day.
Muscle Mass has demonstrated remarkable staying power as a leading stallion. He was Canada’s top trotting sire in 2024 with offspring earning more than $9 million in purse money and dominated the Ontario Sires Stakes program as the leading trotting sire from 2020 to 2024 – and he continues to top the charts in 2025.
